Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eye syndrome is described by the medical term, keratitis sicca, which generally means decreased quality or quantity of tears.  Keratoconjunctivitis sicca refers to eye dryness affecting both the cornea and the conjunctiva.  Dry eye syndrome is caused by a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye.  Its consequences range from subtle but constant irritation to inflammation of the anterior (front) tissues of the eye.

Dry eye syndrome is a chronic condition that affects many people over the age of 50.  Chronic dry eye is also found in many patients after they have had LASIK surgery.  Some diseases such as Ocular Rosacea and Sjogrens Syndrome can also cause dry eye syndrome.

Some symptoms of dry eye disease include burning, itchy, sandy or tearing sensation.  If you are experiencing any of these symptoms please call our office today to see how Dr. Sonneberg can help provide relief to your eyes.
